Land Acknowledgement

We acknowledge that our church is located on Treaty 3 which was the shared traditional territory of the Anishinaabe, Chonnonton and Haudenosaunee peoples. This land is part of the Dish with One Spoon treaty between the Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples. Our church is also situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land granted to the Six Nations that includes six miles on each side of the Grand River.

We acknowledge the historic and ongoing injustices that Indigenous peoples continue to endure in what we now call Canada.

We acknowledge the enduring presence of all First Nations, Inuit and Metis peoples, who continue to live here. We also recognize and appreciate the contributions made by Indigenous peoples, Inuit and Metis, in shaping and strengthening this community, our province and our country.

As covenant people, we are taught to love God and “our neighbours as ourselves,” to honour “all our relations,” including Indigenous peoples, European settlers, new immigrants, plants, and animals. We commit to listen and learn how our historical biases and laws continue to impact the lives of First Nations, Inuit, and Metis peoples. We commit ourselves to gain knowledge, forge new, culturally safe relationships, and contribute to reconciliation with Indigenous peoples.
